German data protection authorities on Tuesday said they had blocked Facebook from collecting subscriber data from its subsidiary WhatsApp, citing privacy concerns.

Facebook and WhatsApp promised in the wake of the Silicon Valley giant’s 2014 acquisition of the messaging app that they would not share data, Hamburg’s Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information Johannes Caspar recalled in a statement.
He added that Facebook would be required to delete any data already received from WhatsApp in Germany.
“It has to be (the users’) decision whether they want to connect their account with Facebook,” Caspar said. “Facebook has to ask for their permission in advance.”

‘Nigerian leaders won’t have peace until they rescue Chibok girls’

A cleric, Pastor Chinedu Ezekwesili, has accused Nigerian leaders of not showing concern about the plight of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls because none of their children was among the victims of Boko Haram violence.
He, therefore, prayed to God to take the peace of the leaders until they rescue the over 200 Chibok girls in Boko Haram captivity.
Ezekwesili, the husband of the Co-convener of the #BringBackOurGirls coalition, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, said this during a special prayer service for the Chibok girls on Sunday in Abuja.
The cleric recalled the killing of 40 students of Federal Government College, Buni Yadi, Yobe State in 2014 by Boko Haram insurgents, which he said was not addressed by the Federal Government.
He noted that the lukewarm response of the government to the incident emboldened the terrorists to abduct the Chibok girls.

Report: Trump Has Not Paid Top Staffers

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has not paid at least ten of his top staff members for their work, according to a new Reuters report based on federal campaign finance filings. Those who apparently worked for free on the campaign include top staffers such as Paul Manafort, who recently stepped down amid scandal over his earlier business dealings with corrupt Ukrainian leaders. In addition, Trump's California state director Tim Clark, communications director Michael Caputo and two senior aides who left in June to work for a Trump Super PAC have all not been paid, according to the campaign finance filings. Trump has repeatedly claimed that his campaign's affordability, with his team spending about one-third of what Hillary Clinton has spent, is proof of his business smarts. It's not clear if the staffers had agreed to work as volunteers or will simply deprived of pay. At least one of those on the list, Michael Caputo, told a radio station in June that he'd never offered to volunteer, but had simply never been paid. Two others, Ken McKay and Laurance Gay, told Reuters that they had worked as volunteers, though they each later received $60,000 through a Trump-backed Super PAC. Other top staffers who have not been paid include finance chairman Steven Mnuchin, national political director Rick Wiley and senior adviser Barry Bennett, according to FEC filings.

Justice is too slow for rape victims – Bose Ironsi

Bose Ironsi is the Executive Director, Women’s Rights and Health Project (WRAHP), an innovative non-governmental organisation with Headquarters in Ejigbo, Lagos State, that works for the promotion of reproductive health, rights and general development for women, young girls and communities. She believes delay in justice for rape victims has given rise to the high incidence of child rape and other cases of violence against women and children.
The rate at which minors are being defiled these days is alarming. It has become an everyday occurrence. What do you think could be the cause of this unfortunate aberration?
I think there are several factors. One of them that is very obvious is the fact that people now speak out more. It is not as if those abuse or crimes were not taking place before, it’s just that people are more comfortable to speak about it now. The social media is also helping matters that when something is happening, people are no longer keeping quiet. Another reason could be the effort of government and other non-governmental organisations like ours which have decided that you need to educate the public for example, we have a project that says, ‘see something say something’. When you see something say it especially when it concerns issues of abuse of women and children.
Secondly, I wouldn’t know why a man would abuse a child. Probably because they see the children as people that cannot report them. If an adult is raped, she’d be able to say this is who did this to me but for a child, she may not be able to express such so they take undue advantage of them. So many people conjure a lot of spiritual reasons why they do that but I don’t believe in that. It has to do with people taking advantage of the innocence of children. The reason they give for raping women is that women go about naked. I wonder why a six month or two-year-old child cannot be naked before the father. If you cannot be vulnerable before your father or immediate family, who else would you be vulnerable to?
