IGP, Solomon E. Arase
The effort of
President Muhammadu Buhari to strengthen the capacity of Nigeria Police
and other security agencies to effectively check the menace of terrorism
and other crimes in Nigeria has started yielding the desired result as
the Nigeria Police and the Federal Republic of Germany through the
German Embassy in Abuja, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, recently.
Speaking during the
event, the German Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Zenner who hailed the
long existing relationship between Nigeria and Germany, said the signing
of the MOU signifies the implementation of the issues discussed during
the Berlin meeting.
Recall that President Buhari was invited to the G-7 meeting in Berlin recently and top on the issues discussed was the fight against terrorism.
According to
Ambassador Zenner, “The German Agency for International Development will
help in strengthening the capacity of the Nigeria Police and Nigeria Immigration Services.”
“Moreover, signing
of the MOU means Germany will contribute to the ongoing
professionalization of the Nigeria Police in line with global best
standard of policy,” Zenner reiterated.
On his own part, the
Inspector-General of Police, Solomon E. Arase lauded the German Embassy
for the gesture and promised the readiness of the Force to ensure the
success of the exercise.
“I am very excited
because it is a result of the initiative of President Muhammadu Buhari
during his visit to Berlin Germany shortly after he assumed the
leadership of the country. We have been able to develop a strategic plan
to ensure respect for human rights, and modern approach to
investigations. We are glad you are going to intervene with us in the
area of capacity building,” IGP Arase stated.
