How has the youth fared?

No one can claim ignorance of happenings around the world especially bad news and evil reports emanating from different corners of the globe. Mankind has gone haywire, evil thrives unabated and things once seen in movies are playing out before our very own eyes.
The world is not safe for anyone; crime seems to be ruling, even good people are overwhelmed on how to deal with the various conditions bedeviling the society. The youths happen to be at the center of most of the fraud and different types of atrocities in our world today.

A good look at crime reports of some of the dailies indicated that most major crimes were committed by the youths – leaders of tomorrow.
Five young men were arrested by operatives of the Anti-Robbery Squad of the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba, Lagos for allegedly strangling a cab driver, Sonye Chukwudi.

The robbers – Anthony Toms (20), Godwin Francis (25), Michael Inyang (21), Evidence David (22), Etuk Tony (23) tricked the 32-year old driver to the Ransome Kuti Gardens, Anthony Village, Lagos where they killed him.
At this juncture, one asks the reason for cutting down the life of the father of four. Did he offend them in any way? Maybe he ‘snatched’ a girlfriend of one of them? Could it be he abused them? Not at all. His offence was his ownership of a car the men wanted at all cost.

The PUNCH newspaper reported that the ‘sharp’ guys thought Chukwudi was rich because he had a white Mercedes Benz E320 saloon car which he usually parked around Ikeja GRA for hire service. The robbers knew they couldn’t afford the car yet they wanted to show off no matter what it’d take.

The youths of today need to take things easy because Rome was not built in a day. Everything has a process which if not followed wouldn’t end well. Nobody should desire what he couldn’t afford at a time. The society needs credible young men and women to champion good causes. Time has come for the youth to shun evil, embrace the good and stand up for what is right. Killing the man wasn’t necessary. They could have driven his car away and let him be.

What about two young men, Daniel Ita and Olayemi Bamitale, domestic staff of a former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Prof. Albert Ilemode who was strangled at his residence in Ijapo Estate, Akure, on June 21, 2015 and dumped his body in the garage. Man’s heart is desperately wicked. A man that was good to them as an employer was repaid in a gruesome manner. Who could be trusted? Our youth need re-orientation because with the way they are going, Nigeria may perish in their hands.

A revolution can start with some youths saying ‘enough is enough’. Our society needs God-fearing men and women who have what it takes to rightfully position the nation and take it to greater heights. The time is now. Who is on Nigeria’s side – could you please step out?
